My interest in radio began with listening to ships (I later went to sea). I was licensed as EI4HQ in January 1992, my first ever contact with Wayne KJ4GY on 10 metres CW. These days I'm active on all the HF bands (except WARC), 6 metres, 2 metres and 70cm. I'm mostly a CW operator but I also dabble with digital modes and SSB. In recent times I've become interested in portable, QRP and QRPp operating. I achieved mixed DXCC in 2010. I've also now completed DXCC on 40m and CW, and I'm working away on additional DXCC endorsements.

I'm a member of the East Cork Radio Group - EI7M, the Cork Radio Club - EI5CRC, the Irish Radio Transmitters Society - IRTS, the American Radio Relay League - ARRL and FISTS (#15540). I'm particularly proud to be an honourary member of the Ilford RSGB Radio Group for having "shown extreme humour in the face of amateur radio".

I am the EI amateur radio contact point for the 2012 Irish Titanic 100th Anniversary commerations. Follow the EI100T Titanic link on the left for details.
